Mark Steyn on Islamic ideology

Mark Steyn’s article Mumbai could happen just about anywhere offers some good insights into recent events in Mumbai and elsewhere.

The Islamic imperialist project is a totalitarian ideology: It is at war with Hindus, Jews, Americans, Britons, everything that is other.

He is right that radical Islam targets everyone who is not Islam. And they are willing to victimize innocent Muslims in the name of jihad. No one is safe. The war on terror is not solely about al Qaeda. It is not about a particular group of individuals organizations. It cannot be defeated by enforcing laws against crimes that are committed by terrorist acts. It is the radical Islamic ideology that must be eliminated.

Iraq status of forces agreement

Iraq’s Cabinet approves U.S. security pact

The agreement sets June 30, 2009, as the deadline for U.S. troops to withdraw from all Iraqi cities and towns, Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said.

The date for all troops to leave Iraq will be December 31, 2011, he said.

Updated 11/22/2008: Iraq warns of consequences of early U.S. pullout. Iraqi Defense Minister General Abdel Qader Jassim said withdrawing before end of 2011 would threaten Iraq’s oil exports, enable neighboring countries to encroach on Iraqi territory, and give free reign to foreign spies. Moqtada al-Sadr, a militia commander, opposes the pact with the US.
